Below are four types of labels that demonstrate how our pathology laboratory labels address these goals.

1. Pre-Cut and Tape Identification Labels

Choose labels that are pre-cut and peel away from the sheet or labels that are conveniently stored in rolls and can be removed like pieces of tape. In either case, you have a wide selection of data fields that can be pre-printed on the labels, including:

• Patient name
• Patient room number
• Age and sex of patient
• Specimen collection date
• Name of doctor
• Type of specimen
• Warning symbols that indicate careful handling

This information helps improve the accuracy of patient identification and reduces the risk of healthcare-associated infections. Additional fields can be added to customized pathology laboratory labels on request.

2. Urine Collection Labels

Because it can reveal so much about what goes on in the body, urine is one of the most commonly collected medical specimens. What information do laboratories ideally need printed on the labels? When you get labels from us, the following information is considered standard:

• Warnings about caustic elements added to the urine container
• The need to refrigerate specimens that contain no preservative
• 24-hour collection labels
• Labels that indicate preservatives, who added preservatives, tests requested, collection started and collection complete dates, and a field for the caregiver’s initials

Choose between labels that reveal a specific kind of data or labels that reveal multiple types of data simultaneously. These labels improve the accuracy of patient identification, and improve the effectiveness among caregivers. Additional fields can be added to customized labels on request.

3. Glucose Tolerance Testing Labels

We offer these types of labels in tablet form and roll form. From our product literature: “Tablets hold 50 sheets of 8 labels per sheet and are sold in packs of 4 tablets each, providing enough labels to identify 1,600 specimens. Roll labels feature bright, fluorescent color [and] are supplied in rolls of 500 labels each.”

Tablet form labels are perfect for attaching to the patient’s requisition form and can be used individually at the required times. Roll form labels are ideal for attaching to specimen vials. Both types of labels identify collection times for specimens to reduce the chance of error. This helps improve effectiveness among caregivers.

4. Storage Solution Labels

These pathology laboratory labels indicate potentially hazardous chemical solutions in which specimens are stored, such as Formalin, Xylene, and Alcohol. These labels help reduce the risk of healthcare-associated chemical injuries. Because some hazardous storage solutions evaporate rapidly, protective respiratory equipment may be required when dispensing or removing them.
